The Subud Library and Vernon Contessa

An Interview by Julia Hurd, December 2013

Vernon Contessa

“What is that source? It is the advice and talks from Bapak. The one who received the latihan first was Bapak. The one who felt the latihan first was Bapak. …this is why I recommend we should be diligent in reading Bapak’s talks. The talks do not change; they are all on the same topic. Johnny Jenkins of The Laughing Goat café

Johnny Jenkins of The Laughing Goat café

At latihan in Boulder we met Johnny Jenkins who has opened a coffee shop called “The Laughing Goat”. The name derives from a legend about how coffee was discovered in Ethiopia by a goatherd who noticed that his charges became very energetic after eating the berries from certain bushes. If anyone has a trip to Boulder, Colorado in their future this lovely little coffee shop is worth a visit!

Taxis are few and difficult to find in Boulder on a cold snowy night just before the Super Bowl when lots of people are declining to be designated drivers. So after our delicious Italian meal at this little family run place, the owner drove us home.  There are still good people in this world and we are grateful!
